Yinka (Sabatta) in conversation with Vernon Reid (Living Colour)

It’d been a long time coming but finally on Jan 19 – MLK day, I interviewed Vernon Reid over the phone in a conversation which lasted about 2 and half hours. Here are some excerpts!

Enjoy!

Over a significant space of time I've heard it called by different names and I've listened to people talk about it. I've heard people say I have it. However, I've been in the game for a while and I'm hard pressed to find others who have it. I'm close to giving up the search, but I know as well as anyone that I will continue the search until I find it or I'm dead.

Maybe you've heard it called "soul" or " heart" or "umph". I've heard it called "ass" and recently was watching This Is It where one musician called it "booty". "Lightning in a bottle"

Whatever you call it--- I'm still searching and putting the word out. I live in the SF Bay Area, home of many band who have had it ( Tower Of Power, Sly & The Family Stone, Metallica, The Dead Kennedys, The Avengers and so on)

What's up bay area? I took notice from a very early point that as far back as the 50s and 60s when this was supposed to be where it's at, you had Jimi Hendrix and Cream era Clapton snubbing the bay saying outright that this wasn't it. I'm starting to think they were both onto something...

Granted, I am in my 40s , but I think i would know it when I saw it regardless of age. i know the difference between whatever fading disposable pop tart that was of the time when I was 19 --- low and behold all the disposable crap is the butt of some joke on VH1.... Remember EMF ( I thought it was crap then too) Anyway, that's my beer buzz rant of the day

Hey, guys I just finished watching a great documentary entitled "Good Hair". It's a Chris Rock venture. The film exposes african-american hair and the hair care industry. I was amazed at some of the information that was addressed. I highly advise all males and anyone of color dealing with hair issues to watch this movi......e. I watched in online at www.watch-movies-online.tv. Big Ups To Greensboro, North Carolina it's my hometown and I lived a couple of minutes away from the Dudley Hair Care Plant. Lemme know what you think. I'm Happy Being Nappy! Now That's Keepin' It Real!
